MissNiya Wants You to Meet: Wedding Planner Candice Joseph

A while back, I had the pleasure of meeting Candice Joseph. She was planning a wedding through her company IDoWeddingsStyle and needed a custom dream catcher for a brides bouquet (pictured below). It takes a special type of person to work with a bride on their special day. Let's get to know Candice!

Candice Joseph w/Dream Catcher by MissNiya Accessories
Who are you?
My name is Candice Joseph, a happy Sagittarius with a love for organization, communication and event coordination!

Where have you been in the last 5 yrs?
The last 5 years have seen me wear many hats career-wise. I've worked with multi-national corporations supporting sales teams and doing team building and small, up and coming businesses, where I do everything from data entry to event coordination. Geographically speaking I've been to the Caribbean a number of times (Jamaica, Antigua and Cuba), I've gone shopping in NYC and ATL and ran amok during the Montreal Jazz Festival!

Where will you be in the next 5 yrs?
The next 5 years I will be here in Toronto continuing to grow IDoWeddingStyle's client base while I work with other small businesses with their event planning and execution. I want to travel more for my work...so hopefully, I will be all over the map staking my claim and making a name for myself.

Bride's Custom Dream Catcher

Why did you choose to do what you do?
I didn't choose to plan events, it chose me. Since I was a child I was the one who turned everyday tasks into grand affairs. I remember folding napkins and lighting candles for weeknight dinners at home. My Barbie dolls had the most elaborate weddings (with invited friends and family), but in the 6th grade when I had the 1st boy/girl party for my peers, I set the bar high for future birthday parties in my neighbourhood. I knew then that party planning and hosting was my true calling.

When do you do your best work?
I work best with it's down to the wire and everyone else around me is in chaos. When I am calming people down and barking orders, I feel as if my passion truly comes through then. Of course, I also do my best work when I have lots of time to delegate and follow up!
What would your dream project be? A celebrity wedding! I'm waiting patiently for the day when one of the Obama girls are ready for marriage! lol

How do you maintain focus and stay inspired?
I find inspiration everywhere I am. I keep a pen and notebook in my purse poised for jotting down ideas as they come to me through out the course of a day. I also read wedding blogs and magazines daily. This industry is filled with amazingly creative people and it's helpful to keep up with trends that pop up each season.

Who is the most interesting person you've worked with?
I don't want to call anyone out for the wrong reasons. Let's just say that when you are planning weddings, you meet all sorts of bridezillas, GROOMzillas, jealous bridesmaids and wacky mothers in law!

What is your favourite accessory?
A red and brown wooden necklace that my friends and I affectionately call "Big Red". She has been worn by many friends to all kinds of events...she's a classic and well worth the money I spent on her 6 years ago!

Why should people accessorize?
Accessories are the poor woman's best friend. If you are like me, you can't buy every fashion trend every season, so the most affordable way to make my jeans and t-shirt look fly is buy having great necklaces to wear and big earrings that change the look of my outfit! Accessories are a way to have fun and look good without having to buy new wardrobes too often.

How do you feel about online-shopping?
Love it. Online shopping is a blessing a curse. Blessing because you can gain access to all sorts of stores and vendors, curse because when you are in the comfort of your home it's so easy to spend spend spend!

How does one get to work with you?
If you have a wedding or event that you just know that you can't handle by yourself and want to relax while the work gets done for you; give me a call!

What is the best piece of advise you can give to others in your industry?
Find your strengths and don't be afraid to boast about it. I know that I'm great at calming people down and diffusing sticky family and friend situations. I make sure that everyone that I work with knows that.

Biggest pet peeve?
People who don't ask for help when they need it or take help when it's being offered to them.

Tell me about your movement?
I can help you make the journey from "Will you marry me?" to "I Do!" a truly memorable one! I plan your day of love with your love for style!

MissNiya Wants You To Meet Hairstylist Raffaele Fiorante!

I've recently had the pleasure of meeting a rising star and hairstylist neither defined nor boxed in by so-called-title's. Raffaele Fiorante is just as excited to work with MissNiya as we are to have him! Read below to get an idea of what Mr.Fiorante keeps him doing what he does...

TELL US WHO YOU ARE
Raffaele Antonio Fiorante (superman/ hair stylist extrordiaire)
I'm an outgoing hair stylist in Yorkville who loves to have fun! Give me some wine and any Lady Gaga song and I'll throw down some moves. At the same time, I take my job very seriously, its my calling in life and i feel complete when doing it!
Photobucket
WHERE HAVE/WILL YOU BEEN IN THE LAST/NEXT 5 YEARS?
Over the last 5 years I've pretty much become more familar with Toronto and its immediately surrounding areas. I've just started traveling and I'm currently in love with New York and the fashion sense there. There is plenty more traveling to come in my future. I see myself living in L.A., maybe on the cover of a couple gossip magazines, hanging out with young hollywood starlets, becoming a celebrity stylist, who knows! I live for pop culture and trends. I especially  love seeing older, more classic trends re-invented. I definitely see myself as some sort of Hair-Icon.... and if not, ill just release a sex tape!

WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
Fashion and beauty have always been fascinating to me, especially my passion for hair. My uncle who is also a hair stylist introduced me to to the hair industry and i fell in love. I believe hair is a woman's pride and joy and even if she is wearing the most exquisite gown, or most extravagant jewelry, if your hair looks like shit, that look overall, is incomplete. When clients leave my chair and they look at themselves in the mirror and always have a big smile on their face that gives off a confidence and joy that makes me as the stylist feel so good. Knowing I am helping women bring out their natural beauty and feel good about themselves is priceless.

WHAT KEEPS YOU FOCUSED?
My best work comes to me when im under pressure. I get bored very easily, so when everything is going at a fast pace and the heat is on, that is when i get my inspiration and my drive. I'm also inspired day by random, everyday things; when an idea pops into my head I must try it as soon as possible and find a way to make it better by somehow working it into "my" style.

WHO IS THE MOST INTERESTING PERSON YOU'VE WORKED WITH?
Maurice Fiorio has definatley taught me a lot of lessons in hair services as well as communications skills, business, and life lessons. He is a master at what he does and has given me access to countless opportunities that i am very grateful for today.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM GIG?
I would LOVE to work backstage doing hair and makeup at a Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, or Madonna concert/tour. I would also jump at the opportunity to work music video, film or television sets. I love celebrities.... I wish I was one.... hell I am one in my own little mind!

RAFF AT LADY GAGA 2010

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE ACCESSORY & WHY SHOULD PEOPLE ACCESSORIZE?
SUNGLASSES!! I probably own over a hundred different pairs of sunglasses, my cigarette glasses being my newest addition! i feel like when you put on a pair of sunglasses, you can be whoever you want to be, they add a bit of mistery to a person and of course they protect your eyes from the sun and nobody wants wrinkles now do they! People should accessorize beacasue if they dont they just look boring and unfinished. acessories can add and complete an outfit, it allows you to express your creativity in a subtile way, or in a loud flashy glittery way!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOVEMENT...
I have worked on a couple photoshoots for up and coming pop bands, doing album and single covers, as well as some promotional photos for vintage clothing designers. While I was attending the Fiorio Academy I was lucky enough to be in a short segment which aired on Much On Demand, showcasing summer hairstyles. I hope to do more projects like that so I can continue to build my portfolio in hopes of becoming Lady Gaga's personal wig keeper!!!

MissNiya Welcomes Laurelle Alexandra To The Team!

Hey! I want to introduce you to a very talented young lady who will be joining MissNiya's team! Fresh from having attended my alumni, George Brown College, Laurelle Alexandra is going to be a great addition! Check out what she has to say below...

Who are you?
I am makeup artist, Laurelle Alexandra and I have always been interested in the arts.  I used to be very shy and I have learned to branch out of that by doing makeup. I love soccer, running and working out. I also very much enjoy reading, and in my spare time I'll go through magazines ripping out makeup, styles, photographic fashion shots that I like

Where have you been in the last 5 yrs?
I've dabbled in a bit of photography, but have mostly been freelancing my skills as a professional Make-Up-Artist through out Toronto, such as the Spring Trend Report Fashion show sponsored by Fuze, HeyDoYou.com and TheRedCarpetRoom.  I have also volunteered at Holt Renfrew, and What Women Want Events, representing Cargo cosmetics
Where will you be in the next 5 yrs?
I see myself in New York working lot of editorials and runway shows. I will also design my own makeup line to be distributed and sold at Sephora.

Why did you choose to do what you do?
I was born to do makeup. My mom, a makeup artist, was my first teacher always advising me to always go out looking your best because you never know who you're going to see. She taught me the basics and gave me my first makeup palette on my 7th birthday. By the age of 12 I already knew how to apply a full face by watching her do it so many times. I was born to do makeup.  I believe a lot of women don't know how to apply their makeup so they don't bother with it. But once you see someone's confidence shift for the better, just because you brighten their face with a little blush, it's the best feeling. And that is the main reason I love what I do.

What would your dream project be?
My dream project would probably to be Victoria Beckham's personal makeup artist. I admire her independence and think she has amazing style! I would love the experience, and having someone with that much style wanting me to do her makeup all the time would be amazing. That is far fetched though, so I before I do that, I would really love to move to New York and work high end runway shows, or the covers of Vogue.

Photobucket
MAKEUP BY: LAURELLE ALEXANDRA
When do you do your best work and how do you maintain focus?
I do my best work around people who are enthusiastic and have a good work ethic. I love to listen to music when I do makeup because it relaxes me and gets me in my moment. I can't really say something specific that helps me maintain focus. I have always gone into my own little world when I do my makeup applications. I focus on the task at hand what I so that I may get the best results.
Who is the most interesting person you've worked with?
Sandy Gold, who was my Professional Makeup 1 teacher. She inspires me so much because she has worked so hard to get where she is and she is so succesful. It makes me truly believe that I can do anything I want to, and be successful at it.

Photobucket
MAKEUP BY: LAURELLE ALEXANDRA
What is your favourite accessory and why should people accessorize?
I never leave my house without my heart shaped necklace that my mother gave me one year for my birthday. I feel naked when I'm not wearing anything around my neck. Accessories really compliment an outfit; no outfit is complete without accessories, I find it really completes the outfit. I also think people should accessories because it allows you to express yourself very well depending what accents you add, to make your statement...

Tell me about your movement?
Current projects include building my portfolio and online presence. I am doing a lot of freelance work in order to support my goals and eventually be represented by an agent doing editorials. That includes volunteering for fashion shows, and other fashion-related events.

How does one get to work with you?
I am pretty much open to working with anyone who wants to succeed in this business, and is willing to work as hard as possible to get there.
I can be reached via email at elle_xo@hotmail.com or 905.699.9553
