MissNiya Wants You to Meet: Wedding Planner Candice Joseph

A while back, I had the pleasure of meeting Candice Joseph. She was planning a wedding through her company IDoWeddingsStyle and needed a custom dream catcher for a brides bouquet (pictured below). It takes a special type of person to work with a bride on their special day. Let's get to know Candice!

Who are you?
My name is Candice Joseph, a happy Sagittarius with a love for organization, communication and event coordination!

Where have you been in the last 5 yrs?
The last 5 years have seen me wear many hats career-wise. I've worked with multi-national corporations supporting sales teams and doing team building and small, up and coming businesses, where I do everything from data entry to event coordination. Geographically speaking I've been to the Caribbean a number of times (Jamaica, Antigua and Cuba), I've gone shopping in NYC and ATL and ran amok during the Montreal Jazz Festival!

Where will you be in the next 5 yrs?
The next 5 years I will be here in Toronto continuing to grow IDoWeddingStyle's client base while I work with other small businesses with their event planning and execution. I want to travel more for my work...so hopefully, I will be all over the map staking my claim and making a name for myself.

Why did you choose to do what you do?
I didn't choose to plan events, it chose me. Since I was a child I was the one who turned everyday tasks into grand affairs. I remember folding napkins and lighting candles for weeknight dinners at home. My Barbie dolls had the most elaborate weddings (with invited friends and family), but in the 6th grade when I had the 1st boy/girl party for my peers, I set the bar high for future birthday parties in my neighbourhood. I knew then that party planning and hosting was my true calling.

When do you do your best work?
I work best with it's down to the wire and everyone else around me is in chaos. When I am calming people down and barking orders, I feel as if my passion truly comes through then. Of course, I also do my best work when I have lots of time to delegate and follow up!
What would your dream project be? A celebrity wedding! I'm waiting patiently for the day when one of the Obama girls are ready for marriage! lol

How do you maintain focus and stay inspired?
I find inspiration everywhere I am. I keep a pen and notebook in my purse poised for jotting down ideas as they come to me through out the course of a day. I also read wedding blogs and magazines daily. This industry is filled with amazingly creative people and it's helpful to keep up with trends that pop up each season.

Who is the most interesting person you've worked with?
I don't want to call anyone out for the wrong reasons. Let's just say that when you are planning weddings, you meet all sorts of bridezillas, GROOMzillas, jealous bridesmaids and wacky mothers in law!

What is your favourite accessory?
A red and brown wooden necklace that my friends and I affectionately call "Big Red". She has been worn by many friends to all kinds of events...she's a classic and well worth the money I spent on her 6 years ago!

Why should people accessorize?
Accessories are the poor woman's best friend. If you are like me, you can't buy every fashion trend every season, so the most affordable way to make my jeans and t-shirt look fly is buy having great necklaces to wear and big earrings that change the look of my outfit! Accessories are a way to have fun and look good without having to buy new wardrobes too often.

How do you feel about online-shopping?
Love it. Online shopping is a blessing a curse. Blessing because you can gain access to all sorts of stores and vendors, curse because when you are in the comfort of your home it's so easy to spend spend spend!

How does one get to work with you?
If you have a wedding or event that you just know that you can't handle by yourself and want to relax while the work gets done for you; give me a call!

What is the best piece of advise you can give to others in your industry?
Find your strengths and don't be afraid to boast about it. I know that I'm great at calming people down and diffusing sticky family and friend situations. I make sure that everyone that I work with knows that.

Biggest pet peeve?
People who don't ask for help when they need it or take help when it's being offered to them.

Tell me about your movement?
I can help you make the journey from "Will you marry me?" to "I Do!" a truly memorable one! I plan your day of love with your love for style!
